Our Mission
The 72nd NYVI Co. B is a American civil war reenactment unit that is a non-profit LLC based out of Jamestown, New York. We are a family friendly group who loves to recreate life in the army and what life was like for those affected by the war. We also like to teach others about our nation's history during the American civil war. We are actively looking for new members and would like to have you join our ranks.
Unit History
The 72nd NYVI served in the “Excelsior Brigade” of Daniel Sickle’s Third Corps, Second Brigade, Second Division of the Army of the Potomac. The regiment was mustered into service in May 1861 and mustered out in October 1864. When company B left Jamestown in 1861 it had 111 men on its roster. When the unit returned home in 1864 there were 11 men who came home.
The regiment was comprised of many counties throughout New York but company B came from Jamestown itself and was part of the third Excelsior Regiment. They participated in several battles including Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Spotsylvania, Cold Harbor.
